GRADUATES OF SEGL PROGRAMS.

COURSE OVERVIEW
This summer, join SEGL for an unforgettable journey to one of the world’s most important–and misunderstood–countries: The People’s Republic of China (中华人民共和国).  From our base in Beijing, the nation’s capital, we will explore the traditional values, rich histories, cultural touchstones, ethical philosophies, and current issues that create modern China’s world view.  Along the way, we will visit some of China’s most important sites, meet with leading experts, and discover new insights about international cooperation and leadership.  Each participant’s journey will culminate in a final mini-Credo that builds on course readings, discussions, journal writing, and site visits.

POTENTIAL VISITS

  • The Forbidden City
  • Tiananmen Square
  • Beijing Office, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
  • The Great Wall of China

THE SITE
We are working with our travel partners to secure safe, cost-effective lodging throughout our trip.  Please check this site soon for further details!

A TYPICAL DAY
While each day is different, you should expect their experience to be filled with discussion, reflection, and discovery. Most days will begin with a brief morning session to prepare for the day’s events. The group will then embark on an exploration of some of the best sites Beijing has to offer. Lunch is scheduled into the daily itinerary and is at the expense of the student. Evening debriefing sessions allow students to share and reflect on their experiences. Students should come prepared to travel throughout Beijing by foot and by public transportation.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
In each of its programs SEGL’s primary responsibility is ensuring the health and safety of each participant.  According to the U.S. State Department, “For most visitors, China remains a very safe country.”  We plan to take all reasonable health and safety precautions, including helping students prepare for everything from air pollution to pickpockets.
